This recipe from the BBC ‘Nigel’s lazy loaf‘ does the job well. After the 25 minutes in the oven, I added another 5 minutes with the lid off – the crust needed it.
Top tip: a decent substitute for buttermilk is regular milk with lemon juice in it – 1 tablespoon lemon juice to 1 english cup/~300ml. Who has buttermilk anyway?
